Pearl City beat Kainalu 12-1 in the opening round of the Hawaii State Little League 10-11 Championship Tournament played on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Aikahi Park in Kailua.
The game was called after four complete innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Pearl City held Kainalu to no hits behind the arms of starting pitcher Sheldon Yamura and reliever Makana Canyon. Yamura pitched 3 and 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Makana Canyon pitched 2/3 of the bottom of the fourth inning with two strikeouts.
Nicholas Pujalet and William Eddy pitched for Kainalu. Pujalet pitched 3 and 1/3 innings allowing twelve runs on ten hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Eddy pitched 2/3 of the top the fourth inning in relief of Pujalet allowing no runs and no hits.
Pearl City moves on in the winners bracket of the double elimination state championship tournament and will play the winner of Friday's Ewa Beach/Kailua game on Saturday, July 13 at 4:00pm.
