Highlands Intermediate School held the 1st Annual COLTS EXPO on Thursday, April 18 on the school campus. Fifth, sixth, and seventh graders and their families from the entire Pearl City Community were invited to learn about the school’s exciting programs.

Congratulations to Highlands Intermediate School Principal Lance Tanouye his administration, faculty, staff, and amazing students who came together to present dozens of outstanding Pathway programs to very special guests that included family, friends, community and business partners and supporters.

Mahalo to Pearl City High School Principal Joseph Halfmann and leaders and students from the PCHS College of Career Academies who presented the many programs representing the three PCHS Career Academies:

  • Academy of Culinary, Health and Leadership
  • Academy of International Business and Design
  • Academy of Technology and Design

It was nice to meet Highlands Intermediate School Media Department supporters and mentors from ‘Olelo – Wayne Yun, Community Engagement Coordinator and Jo-Lynn Domingo, Community Media. HIS Media students conducted interviews and fielded questions from visitors to their classroom/studio on Thursday. ‘Olelo filmed and interviewed the students as well. Great partnership!

Also, I wanted to say mahalo to Meagan Lampo, Reagan Chang, and Yeegan Nakamatsu from the PCHS College of Technology and Design for spending time conducting an interview with me for this article. They were great and truly inspiring for Highlands Intermediate students and their families while encouraging students to join the  PCHS Academy of Technology and Design as they enter PCHS as freshmen.

Students and their families from the eight elementary schools in the Pearl City Complex were also introduced to the Academy programs at Highlands Intermediate by the HIS students and their teachers as well as by the PCHS students from the three College of Career Academies.

I am extremely proud to support Highlands Intermediate School as the President and Interact Leadership Director of the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and also as Community Liaison for the Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association. Both organizations support the HIS Student Council/Interact Leadership Club through financial donations, mentorships, and community service partnerships.

The Pearl City Shopping Center also continued their support of Highlands Intermediate School by  providing overflow parking at the shopping center (50 stalls) for this year’s COLTS EXPO.

Mahalo once again to Principal Lance Tanouye and his incredible Highlands Intermediate School ohana for a wonderful, memorable, and career building event that is focused on the well-being and future success of our youth as they reach their education goals.

I would also like to say mahalo to the Highlands Intermediate School ohana for the ono snacks and HIS swag.

GO COLTS!
