The Waipahu Marauders held a 1-0 lead through six complete innings of play on Wednesday before the visiting Pearl City Chargers tied the game in top of the seventh and exploded for four runs in the top of the eighth inning to earn the 5-1 win in the OIA Western Division regular season finale.
Pearl City finishes the regular season at 6-4 while Waipahu fell to 1-9 in league standings. The Chargers sit in third place in league standings behind second place Leilehua 7-3 and first place Mililani at 8-1.
The Chargers sent five pitchers to the mound against the Marauders on Wednesday with Caleb Felix getting the start and Noah Bernal earning the win in relief. Felix pitched 3 complete innings while allowing 1 run, 1 hit with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Bernal pitched 2 complete innings while allowing no runs, no hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Cohen Adaro, Jayson Au Hoy and Ian Wicklund all pitched in relief for the Chargers.
Marauder starting pitcher Reysen Benigno held a 1-0 lead before giving up a run that tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. Benigno pitched 7 complete innings while allowing I run, 7 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Pearl City jumped on Marauder relief pitcher Ryder Asuncion in the top of the eighth inning scoring 4 runs to take the lead and earn the win. Asuncion pitched 2/3 innings while allowing 4 runs, 1 hit and 2 walks with no strikeouts to take the loss for Waipahu. Marauders Reece Murayama pitched 1/3 innings in relief of Asuncion.
