2024 OIA East/West Championship is a WRAP!
But not without some exciting bowling finishes, let’s start with our Championship girls of PCHS.
Our girls had the lead over their team competitors and never relinquished that team lead. The individual action started after the break with three games to go.
PCHS Samantha ” Sami” Kanehilua made her move to capture the 2024 OIA Individual title.
Sami down 83 pins from Waipahu’s Chryslin, Sami rolled games of 248,186.188 to win by 21 pins and garner the 1st place title! CONGRATULATION Sami”

But these girls cannot do this alone without their legendary coach Millie Gomes ! The legend keeps on growing without looking back. She is the backbone of the entire PCHS Bowling program. with a heart of gold!
Also like to thank Assistant coach Trent Ichimura for helping our Bowlers mental and physical game and Technical coach Jimbo Pirtle for his tech knowledge on bowling balls and lane condition reading to help our kids perform at their very best!
OIA East/West Boys Champions.
Our boys were steady throughout this championship rolling 6 game team scores of 927,850,940,941,1026 and 962. Team scores over900 is of a premium on a difficult lane pattern, the boys reacted quickly to the ever-moving transition out on the lanes and ball change.
Thank you Jimbo.
The excitement again was for the boys individual title. It was between PCHS Trenton “TJ” Ichimura Jr and Castle Thomas O.
it honestly came down to the last 3 frames of the final game. Going into game six TJ only had a 21 pin lead, which dissipated midway in the game as Thomas strung 4 strikes taking the lead. This was TJ’s first OIA championship. As a coach you don’t know how an athlete going to handle pressure, so I texted his dad assistant coach Trent to come over to the boys’ side. asking him how his son handles pressure? Without hesitation he said ” he’s good under pressure” we called TJ over to tell him what he needed to win the OIA individual championship! We still needed help from Thomas. Unfortunately, he had two open frames late in the game, TJ needed only a spare in the 9th & 10th frames. Needless to say TJ held his composure made it and is your new OIA boys individual champion “Congratulation TJ”
Motivating and coaching, keeping these young men in check on the lanes and in the classroom, is 10 year Coach Tony Madrona slowly adding titles to his own PCHS winning legacy and having fun doing it.
