Pearlridge Rotarians Dick Mosko (Past District 5000 Governor/RCOP President) and Barry Villamil (2024-2025 RCOP President) volunteered their time while representing the RCOP on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Annual Honolulu City & Country Pearl Harbor Bike Path Clean-up.

Dick and I picked up rubbish along the Pearl Harbor Bike Path and Pearl Harbor shoreline beginning at 7:30am from Blaisdell Park in Aiea to the Hawaiian Electric Waiau Power Plant in Pearl City. We completed our clean-up and beautification volunteer efforts at around 8:30am.

The Pearl Harbor Bike Path is not what it used to be. The area we where we were picking up rubbish was occupied by homeless encampments. After speaking with neighbors, they let us know that there are pitbulls in the homeless encampments and pretty scary activity.

We were safe as HPD officers on quad patrol vehicles patrolled the bike path during the annual clean-up, but how safe is the bike path any other day?

A few senior citizens walking on the bike path on Saturday said that the bike path has really changed, but they will continue to walk on the bike path to stay healthy and fit.

My prayers go out to all bike path users and neighbors that they remain safe.
