The Pearl City Chargers were once again outgunned and out of the win column after a crushing 60-20 loss to the Aiea Na Ali’i Saturday night in Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division I Varsity Football played at Aiea High School. The Chargers are 0-5 in league play and 0-7 overall. Aiea improved to 2-3 league and 4-3 overall. It’s been a rough 2024 preseason and regular season so far for the Chargers with a couple more tough regular games left on their schedule. The Chargers will host the Kailua Surfriders (3-2, 3-5) on Saturday, October 19, followed by their regular season finale at home against the Leilehua Mules (4-1, 5-3) on Friday, October 25. Leilehua’s only regular season league loss was against Kailua 33-30 on September 7.
Aiea Na Ali’I QB Elijah Mendoza tore up the Chargers defense through the air completing 20-28 passes for 309 yards and 5 touchdowns. Top Aiea Na Ali’I receivers who caught touchdown passes from Mendoza in the ball game were Hiki Kim Choy Keb Ahlo who caught 5 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown, Jhermie Cacpal with 6 catches for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Evan Medoza who caught 6 passes for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns. Taylor Chuck rushed for 27 yards on 6 carries with 1 touchdown for the Na Ali’i
The Na Ali’I also scored on electrifying touchdowns by Xzavier Niko’s third quarter 50 yard kickoff return, and Kaimi Kahookele fourth quarter 89 yard pick six.
Pearl City Chargers QB Jonah Galanto completed 21-41 for 175 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Galanto threw touchdown passes to Keaton Tomas (9 catches, 69 yards, TD), and Javian Mizuno (4 catches, 54 yards, TD). On the ground, Lennon Elder picked up 48 yards on 10 carries with a TD.
