Felix powers Pearl City over Campbell 8-5, Chargers advance to OIA DI Baseball Playoffs consolation final

Caleb Felix proved once again to be the CHARGER with the POWER after hitting 2-2 with a double, triple, 2 RBI in Pearl City’s 8-5 win over Campbell on Thursday in the 2024 OIA DI Baseball Championship Playoffs 5th/6th consolation semifinals played at Waipahu High School. Felix outstanding performance at the plated lifted Pearl City to the consolation finals against the Kalani Falcons on Saturday, April 27 at the Falcons home field. Kalani defeated Mililani 8-5 in a semifinal matchup to advance to the 5th/6th place consolation finals.

At the plate, the Chargers once again got productive performances from Ethan Higashionna (3-4, run scored), Devin Fujino (1-4, RBI, run scored), Noah Bernal (1-3. double, RBI, run scored) and Caleb Felix (2-2, double, triple, 2 RBI). Felix hit power shots to the gaps in the top of the second and third innings.

Pearl City starter Jase Lorenzo kept the Sabers off the scoreboard with a solid outing to earn the win for the Chargers. Lorenzo pitched 4 complete innings while allowing no runs, 1 hit, 3 walks and no strikeouts.

Campbell starting pitcher Ismael Diaz took the loss for the Sabers. Diaz pitched 2.3 innings while allowing 5 runs, 3 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

The Sabers made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning while rallying for four runs off of Charger relievers Devin Won and Eva Mizuguchi to close the deficit to 8-5. Andrew Kuroiwa stepped in pitching 0.6 innings in relief to stop the Sabers rally and close out the ball game.
