Mahalo to the Pearl City High School (PCHS) Rotary Interact Club for once again joining the Rotary Club of Pearlridge (RCOP) at yesterday’s monthly clean up, maintenance and beautification of the Puuloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden in Pearl City.
Puuloa Springs is located between Blaisdell Park and the Hawaiian Electric Power Plant along the Pearl Harbor Bike Path and between the Pearl Harbor Bike Path and Pearl Harbor shoreline.
PCHS Interact Club and RCOP community service volunteers started out bright and early Saturday morning while splitting into three groups to tackle the workday tasks ahead.
1. Clear and pick up rubbish along the Pearl Harbor Bike Path and Pearl Harbor shoreline.
2. Clear out and pick up rubbish and place rocks as edging around plumeria trees in the Puuloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden.
3. Cut tree and shrub branches and dig out overgrow weeds, grass, and dead roots in the garden.
The final Puuloa Springs workday tasks was to come together to haul out about a dozen bags of rubbish and green recyclable waste to the Blaisdell Park rubbish pick up zone.
At the end of each Puuloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden monthly Saturday workday, Puuloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden Project Chair Lasar McCabe chooses a RCOP member to share their “Mana’o Moment” with the group in appreciation for coming together and bonding at Puuloa Springs through their beautification and sustainability commitment to the environment.
Mahalo to RCOP board member Gordon Arakaki for sharing his inspiring and heartfelt Mana’o Moment words of appreciation and gratitude to the group.
We also follow each Puuloa Springs workday with a “cool down” (from the morning’s rising temperature) where we all share refreshing drinks, ono desserts, and fellowship. Mahalo Lasar for providing the goodies!

The Highlands Intermediate School Interact Club and advisors may be joining the RCOP at our next Puuloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden workday scheduled for Saturday, September 16 at 8:00am.
