I would like to thank everyone who came out in support of the Rotary Club of Pearlridge, Cross Academy School, (former Our Savior Lutheran School) and Cross Academy Interact Club who partnered to present It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness signwaving event Wednesday morning fronting Cross Academy School at the intersection of Moanalua Road and Koauka Loop in Aiea.

Everyone joined together to sine wave from 7:15am- 7:45am. Motorists beeped their horns in recognition and appreciation for the signwaving efforts to deliver the message of traffic safety in a very busy and dangerous intersection near Cross Academy and Pali Momi Medical Center. The intersection is known for excessive speeding and the running red light traffic signals that makes it unsafe for other motorists and especially for pedestrians in the crosswalks.
It was so inspiring to see the community join the enthusiastic and energetic Cross Academy student body, their teachers, staff, and Principal Clarence De Lude, and Minister Mitchell Gowen as they led the way during the Red Light signwaving event. The Cross Academy students also created large, It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light posters with their traffic safety messages that were posted on the fence line on school property along Moanalua Road.
Cross Academy students representing four different grade categories, who placed in first place in the It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light coloring/drawing contest were announced and recognized following the signwaving event for their creative original artwork and impactful traffic safety messages. Each first place winner received a $50.00 check from the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and a recognition and congratulatory certificate from Honolulu City Councilmember Radiente Cordero who represents Aiea.
As a Rotary Club of Pearlridge Board member and member of the Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club, it was very rewarding to volunteer alongside an incredible group of dedicated community volunteers and wonderful friends to help make Aiea community roadways safer for motorists and pedestrians. Both organizations support our schools and students in Aiea and Pearl City with the support of area elected officials, HPD, and local businesses.

About It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness Program
It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness Program was created by Barry Villamil in 2014 after participating for a couple years with Representative K. Mark Takai and community volunteers in the CTAP – Community Traffic Awareness Program that delivered traffic safety awareness messages to motorist through coordinated signwaving outings in both Aiea and Pearl City, along with a fun, interactive, and educational component in Pearl City Complex Schools.
Ten Pearl City Complex Schools participated early on in the annual It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness Program signwaving and Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness coloring contest in the eight elementary schools. The Pearl City Shopping Center/MyPearlCity.com and Hawaiian Electric served as original presenting sponsors.
Wednesday’s It’s Not All Right To Run The Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness Program signwaving event and coloring contest presented and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and Cross Academy School represents the return of the Red Light Traffic Safety Awareness Program during the 2023-2024 school year.
