St. Louis cut short Pearl City’s hopes of capturing a state baseball title on Maui this weekend after the ILH Champions beat the OIA runner-up Chargers 4-0 on Thursday at the Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball State Championship Tournament played at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.
Crusader ace hurler Spencer Rego pitched a gem holding the potent Charger battery to three hits in seven complete innings to earn the quarterfinal shut-out win.
Pearl City’s Eli Oshiro took the loss pitching four innings while allowing 3 runs, 5 hits, with 2 strikeouts.
Drew Boyles pitched two innings in relief of Oshiro allowing 1 run, 2 hits with 4 strikeouts.
St. Louis moves on to today’s semifinals to face Waiakea at 4:30pm. Kailua will take on Baldwin in the semifinal doubleheader night cap at 7:00pm. Winners move on to the championship on Saturday at 6:00pm.
Pearl City will play in the consolation 5th place semifinals today against Kalani at 11:15am. Hilo will face Mililani at 1:15pm in the other consolation semifinal. Winners move on to the 5th place consolation game on Saturday at 12:30pm.
