In the light of a very special Good Friday morning sun, Kahu Kordell Kekoa performed a traditional Hawaiian blessing upon on the brand new Pearl City Chargers and Lady Chargers “Field of Dreams” as it sparkled under beautiful, Pearl City blue skies.
Pearl City High School Athletics Director Reid Shigemasa, Assistant PCHS Athletics Director Mike Pang, PCHS Academies Principal Liane Saito Sataraka, Chargers Head Baseball Coach Wes Yonamine, Chargers Assistant Head coach Gary Miyama, PCHS Athletic Trainer Jason Ishikawa, and PCHS Athletic Trainer all participated in the blessing ceremony.
Together, they placed Hawaiian salt and blessed water on the bases, mound, home plate and special areas around the new ball parks that are special to them. They all got an opportunity to place their hands on home plate to feel the mana before the first pitch is thrown. It was a very heartfelt moment that they will always remember and cherish. I am so fortunate and honored to have the opportunity to capture their special moments of Charger Pride. Mahalo Kahu Kekoa.
Kahu Kordell walked the Chargers Field of Dreams and blessed the facility as well as placed ceremonial lei at the entrances to the softball and baseball fields near their third base line dugout gates.
What an incredible morning with an amazing group of individuals who represent the success of Chargers athletics and our community.
Kahu Kordell Kekoa
“Pearl City is an incredible, beautiful place and not just good scenery, but good people and the people is really what makes everything at Pearl City High School, elementary, middle school and all of our students and families a wonderful place. This athletic field is a field of dreams that’s going to help our students get from home, around, and back to home and go one step at a time to find success.”
Reid Shigemasa – Athletic Director, Pearl City High School
”For the Pearl City Community and Pearl City Baseball, this has been a great day for all of our athletes, our coaches, our personnel for our athletic department, and for our community to finally have something that a lot of others would be glad to have. For us, it’s just and honor to have this special day and to open up for our baseball team, as well as our softball team. For all the people that came before, to the teams that came in the past, thank you for your sacrifice.”
Wes Yonamine – Head Coach Pearl City Chargers Baseball Program
“When I first became head coach a few years ago, I set a goal to respect those that came before me by perpetuating their winning tradition by adding a new layer of success to the foundation of the Charger baseball storied legacy. Today that goal was realized, and tomorrow we will deliver our first pitch, and take our first swing at home plate at our beautiful new ball park. Thank you to all who helped make our dreams come true.”
Today, with Kahu Kordell Kekoa’s blessing upon Pearl City High School’s brand new field of dreams, the Charger baseball and Lady Chargers softball programs are to set embark on a heightened level of Charger Pride that welcomes all to play, enjoy, and cheer on the student athletes and their coaches while experiences the ultimate game of baseball at the Chargers Field of Dreams.
