The City and County of Honolulu held the much anticipated re-opening of Waiau District Park yesterday during a re-dedication ceremony and Hawaiian blessing at the newly renovated Waiau District Park Recreation Building.
The event began with Honolulu City Councilman Brandon Elefante introducing special guests in attendance followed by Kahu Makani Tabura performing a traditional Hawaiian blessing and untying of a Maile lei at the entrance to the facility. Pearl City Neighborhood Board President Larry Veray and PCNB Board Member Elayne Funakoshi assisted in the untying of the Maile lei and opening of the facility front doors.
Congratulations to Waiau District Park Director Dahlia Manzanillo and her staff who were excited and happy to once again open the facility to the community that it serves.
”It’s so exciting to be able to open up the facility again. It means we can continue to provide quality programs and activities to our community and focus on participant’s health and wellness.
Past directors, Bert Koide, Charmille Abe, and Andy Yamada laid the foundations for many of the successful programs offered at Waiau DP. I hope to add to their legacy and continue to offer interesting and engaging activities the community will enjoy as well. With a newly renovated facility the possibilities are endless!”
