Pearl City beats Campbell 3-1, takes over sole possession of first place

Pearl City ace Eli Oshiro earned the win, while Devin Hayashi pitched out of a bases-loaded, bottom of the seventh inning jam to earn the save as the Chargers defeated the Campbell Sabers 3-1 on Wednesday at Central Oahu Regional Park. Pearl City (4-0) takes over first place in OIA Western Division Baseball league standings with the win over Campbell (3-1).

Oshiro had a steady and commanding performance on the mound for the Chargers pitching 5 innings while allowing 1 run, 2 hits with 10 strikeouts. Oshiro also batted 1-3. Hayashi pitched 2 innings allowing  no runs, 1 hit  with 3 strikeouts to record the save. Hayashi also contributed at the plate hitting 1-3 and scoring the Chargers third run of the ball game in the top of the sixth inning.

Campbell’s Xavier Streadbeck took the loss for the Sabers pitching 5 innings while allowing 2 runs, 3 hits with 1 strikeout. Deion Jones (1 2/3 innings) and Kamanui Saito (1 1/3 innings) pitched in relief for the Sabers.

After a scoreless first inning, Pearl City got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead on a 2 RBI double by Dacoda Agoto that scored Tyson Murakami and Eliaz Duropan.

Campbell responded in the bottom of the third inning scoring on a RBI single by Jayden Flores that plated Kayne Carlos. The Sabers trailed 2-1 after 3 complete innings.

The Chargers scored the final run of the ball game in the top of the sixth inning on Ranson Aquino’s RBI single that scored Devin Hayashi.

The Sabers left the bases loaded in bottom of first and seventh innings. Eli Oshiro held back the Sabers in the first inning with a strikeout to end the bases loaded threat. Devin Hayashi got Cason Eliptico-Quinata to hit into a double play to shortstop to end the bases loaded threat and game.

The Chargers return to league play this Saturday against Leilehua (1-2) at Wahiawa Middle School with first pitch scheduled for 11:00am.

The Sabers will take on Mililani (2-2) on Saturday at Hans L ‘Orange at 6:00pm.
