On Thursday, November 18, the Rotary Club of Pearlridge presenting Pali Momi Medical Center with Thank You Cards and $10 Jamba Juice gift cards for 490 nurses and 58 nurse aides.
Pali Momi COO Barb Craft, Pali Momi Director of Philanthropy Amanda Price, Pali Momi Development Officer Courtney Wagner, Pali Momi Chief Nurse Executive Brigitte McKale, and Pali Momi Director of Patient Services Robyn Kalahiki were presented with the Thank You Cards and $10 Jamba Juice gift cards.
Rotary Club of Pearlridge President Dick Mosko, RCOP Public Relations Chair Barry Villamil, and RCOP Board of Directors Clarence De Lude and Angel Ramos made the presentation to the Pali Momi executive staff and nurses.
The Thank you cards and $10.00 Jamba Juice cards were sponsored by Rotary Club of Pearlridge members and the Rotary Club of Pearlridge Foundation.
600 students representing 12 elementary schools from Aiea and Pearl City that participate annually in the Rotary Club of Pearlridge annual Rotary International District 5000 Dictionary Project provided hand written and drawn messages in each Thank You card for the Pali Momi nurses and nurse aides. Likewise, three Rotary Youth Interact Clubs sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge also created wonderful, heartfelt, hand written messages and artwork on poster boards expressing their feelings of gratitude and support for the nurses and nurse aides. A total of about 630 amazing students from 14 schools were involved in the Rotary Healthcare Heroes community project.
The Rotary Club of Pearlridge and Pali Momi Medical Center were also presented Proclamation/Recognition Certificates from the Hawaii State Senator Bennette Misalucha, Hawaii State House of Representative Gregg Takayama, and Honolulu City Council Brandon Elefante that named and recognized Thursday, November 18, 2021 as the Rotary Club of Pearlridge Adoption of Pali Momi Medical Center Day as a part of Rotary International’s Healthcare Heroes Project.
The RCOP is truly grateful for the recognition from our area elected officials with the presentation of the Proclamation/Recognition Certificates.

“I commend the Rotary Club of Pearlridge for choosing to adopt Pali Momi Medical Center as part of Rotary International’s Healthcare Heroes Project. The nurses and nurse aides being recognized are so often the unsung heroes of the day-to-day work of the medical community – but the pandemic has truly put them in the limelight as the heroes that they really are, “said Councilmember Brandon Elefante, who represents the district. “That 14 Aiea and Pearl City Schools participated with the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and its Youth Interact Leadership Program, makes the recognition that much more of a heartfelt and meaningful gift. It is truly humbling to be in a position to honor organizations that do such important, uplifting work in our community,” Elefante said.
The RCOP also appreciated the support from District Governor Sandy Matsui and Past District Governor Naomi Masuno who both attended the Healthcare Heroes event held at Pali Momi Medical Center.

“Just when we thought that we were coming out of that horrific pandemic environment and the rates start soaring again, and we realized just how much stress our poor healthcare workers were under that we put out a call to action and it’s amazing, within six weeks Rotary responded and adopted the hospitals’ said District Governor Sandy Matsui. “Look at this amazing response from these youth, our future leaders. This is just so inspiring. At times like this we know that our people really do serve with Aloha, especially the people that put this together, the Rotarians, the Healthcare workers, everyone, mahalo. I just feel so touched with this whole experience.”

“For Rotary, its Service Above Self, and when we see people who are doing something that is so important to our community, for Rotary to support them and recognize that the healthcare workers are putting their lives on the line and taking care of our community members is something that we really want to tell them that we appreciate what they do,” said Past District Governor Naomi Masuno. “They’ve got Rotary in their heart because this is what Rotary does. So, what it means to Rotary is they’re part of our community. We’ve got their partnership with them. They take care of our people and we want to take care of them.”

“As a Rotarian, this means the world to me because I am able to see the people that I joined with in this community recognize the people that I’ve been supporting,” said Pali Momi COO Barb Craft. “As a nurse myself, this is like the pinnacle for me. Having the community and our keiki to recognize our nursing staff, these are our future. These children, these young men and women are going to be our future leaders, hopefully in healthcare. Their interest in supporting these heroes, I gotta tell ya, the marvel universe got nothing on our nurses in Hawaii. So, thank you very much for everything and I’m just so proud to be a Rotarian.”
The RCOP would like send our deepest appreciation to RCOP Interact Leadership students, their advisor, and Principal Clarence De Lude from Our Savior Lutheran School in Aiea who presented two Thank you posters filled with Thank you messages and wonderful artwork to Pali Momi COO Barb Craft. The posters will be displayed at the Pali Momi Medical Center with other Thank you posters from Interact Leadership students representing Highlands Intermediate School and Pearl City High School. Thank you to all of them for their heartfelt Thank you messages.
The success of the Rotary Healthcare Heroes Project epitomizes our commitment as Rotarians to Service Above Self through the spirit of Aloha blessed upon ourselves and others.
Together, we created a special bond of sincere gratitude that was fueled by our keiki in their very own words and images for those who deserve a moment of appreciation while being recognized as Healthcare Heroes.

ROTARY CLUB OF PEARLRIDGE ADOPTION OF PALI MOMI MEDICAL CENTER AS A PART OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S HEALTHCARE HEROES PROJECT"
Held on November 18, 2021
WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature supports efforts to encourage increased participation in community service to improve the quality of life for all of Hawaii’s people; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature recognizes the dedication of healthcare workers throughout this pandemic; and
WHEREAS, the ideals of community service and healthcare workers will come together on November 18, 2021 with the "ROTARY CLUB OF PEARLRIDGE ADOPTION OF PALI MOMI MEDICAL CENTER AS A PART OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S HEALTHCARE HEROES PROJECT" through a collaborative effort of many students from across the State, the Rotary Club of Pearlridge, numerous individuals, and community leaders; and
WHEREAS, the goals of the " ROTARY CLUB OF PEARLRIDGE ADOPTION OF PALI MOMI MEDICAL CENTER AS A PART OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S HEALTHCARE HEROES PROJECT" are to provide gratitude to the dedicated healthcare workers who have selflessly and tirelessly worked to keep our communities healthy and safe; and
WHEREAS, students from Pearl City High School, Highlands Intermediate School, Our Savior Lutheran School, Alvah Scott Elementary, Gus Webling Elementary School, Lehua Elementary School, Manana Elementary School, Momilani Elementary School, Our Savior Lutheran School, Palisades Elementary School, Pearl City Elementary School, Pearl City Highlands Elementary School, Pearl Ridge Elementary School, St. Elizabeth School, and Waiau Elementary School have come together to illustrate and write messages of thanks as well as provide posters of gratitude to the nurses and nurse aides at Pali Momi Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, members of the Rotary Club of Pearlridge have collected and provided financial support to this project in order to provide Jamba Juice gift cards to be included with the notes of thanks; and
WHEREAS, numerous individuals and groups have come together including Dick Mosko, Lasar McCabe, Sandy Matsui, Bard Craft, Brigitte McKale, Robyn Kalahiki, Amanda Price, the Rotary Club of Pearlridge, and Hawaii Pacific Health: now, therefore,
