The Pearl City Lady Chargers finished fourth in the 2016 HHSAA Division I State Softball Championship Tournament after dropping the third place consolation game to Mililani 7-1 this afternoon at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.
The Lady Chargers dropped a heartbreaker to Kapolei 6-5 last night in the semifinals. Kapolei scored the winning run from third base in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Lady Chargers and advance to the tonights' championship title game against defending state champion Campbell. It was a reversal of fortune for Kapolei as Campbell blew past the Lady Hurricanes 12-2 to win back to back state championships.
Our Lady Chargers finished the 2016 season and post season at 10-10. They played with all heart and confidence throughout the 2016 campaign and represented Pearl City High School and the Lady Chargers softball program with pride and exceptional talent.
Led by ace hurlers Tyanna Kaaialii and Kristin Frost, no-hit victories, as well as holding the opposition to low scoring contests were a common occurrence all season for the Lady Chargers.
The Lady Chargers also benefitted from solid performances at the plate throughout the season and in the post season. Hope Casarez recorded a .500 batting average in the state tournament hitting 6-12 with 3 RBI and 6 runs scored. Hailey-Alexis Yamaguchi batted .500 hitting 5-10 with 4 RBI and 1 run scored.
I would like to say mahalo to the Lady Chargers for the opportunity to follow and capture the girls in action throughout the 2016 season. Aloha to all the Seniors!
Great Job Lady Chargers!
