Earth Day 2016

Friday, April 22, was Earth Day! In recognition of Earth Day, we had a dress down where everyone at our school could wear green! Another thing that Highlands Intermediates Student Council did for Earth Day was a Service Project! The gym and park next to our school, Pearl City District Park, was littered with trash. We all thought that by saying thank you to the people who own the gym, we would clean the park for them! We all had fun cleaning because we brought music with us and most importantly, a good attitude! Lastly, to end Earth Day 2016, our student council decided to start a new tradition by planting our own trees!  Each Student Council member got a chance to dig with pick and shovel and we finally got 3 trees planted next to the SG Room! This Earth Day has taught all of us to enjoy and appreciate everything that we have, and to ALWAYS treat our Earth like how you would treat a person! Sarah, 8th Grade Secretary

OSPCA Drive

Dog treats, chew toys, cat food, and many other items were all donated in our first ever OSPCA Donation Drive!!!  For those of you who do not know what the OSPCA is, it is an animal shelter that houses hundreds of stray cats and dogs.  With all of these animals in the shelter, it is pretty hard to make sure that they have enough supplies.  So, we wanted to help them and we did by running a donation drive where everyone could pitch in and help all of these poor animals!!!  There were tons of donations and we would like to thank everyone who pitched in and donated!!!  We definitely helped to make all of those animals’ lives much better. Cade, SG President

National Purple Up! Day

Everyone on campus — students, faculty, staff — to wear purple today as a visible way to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Purple was chosen because it is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue.  Big mahalo to all of our Highlands military students, faculty, staff and parents!

It's Not Alright to Run the Red Light!

Drivers, don't run the red light! Each day 120,00 drivers run the red light!  30,800 fatal accidents happened last year alone. So, Highlands intermediate Student Council in conjunction with all 8 Pearl City elementary schools and Pearl City High School, waved signs saying loud and clear — “Don't Run the Red Light!”  In the early morning, out on Ho’olaule’a  Street fronting the school, the Highlands StuCo waved and held signs to bring awareness to this huge problem!  By not running a red light, you just might save a life…we hope this will encourage you to follow traffic safety!  Jade, StuCo Historian
