Starting this week, Kiewit crews will begin working at the Waimano Home Road intersection installing guideway segments. These overhead segments will ultimately be where the trains will run once construction work is completed in 2017. Here is a list of the closures needed to safely set these segments through the intersection:
- Starting Wednesday, 3/16, the eastbound left-turn from Kamehameha Highway to Waimano Home Road will be closed 24/7 for approximately two weeks.
- Starting the week of 3/20, Kiewit will also close the Waimano Home Road intersection nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This means there will be no left turns from eastbound or westbound Kamehameha Highway and no crossing Kamehameha Highway at the Waimano Home Road intersection. The nightly intersection closures will take place for approximately three weeks.
- Starting Wednesday, 3/23, the westbound left-turn from Kamehameha Highway to Lehua Avenue will be closed 24/7 for approximately two weeks.
- On Wednesday, 3/23, Thursday, 3/24 and Monday, 3/28, there will be a 24-hour intersection closure of Waimano Home Road. Again, this means there will be no left turns from eastbound or westbound Kamehameha Highway and no crossing Kamehameha Highway at the Waimano Home Road intersection.
Kiewit was able to time the majority of this work during the Pearl City complex schools' spring break to help alleviate the impact to traffic in the area. We sincerely appreciate everyone's patience as we continue to build the Honolulu rail transit project through the Pearl City community.
