Pearl City swept Kihei Maui 6-5 (7 innings) and 10-0 (4 innings) to win the 2015 Hawaii Little League Minors 9-10 State Championship on Monday, June 22 at Central Oahu Regional Park (CORP) in Waipio.
Kihei entered Monday's game one with an undefeated 2-0 championship tournament record while Pearl City came in at 2-1 and fresh off Sunday's win over Hilo in the losers bracket. Kihei was one win away from the championship title while Pearl City needed to beat Kihei in game one to force a game two for the championship. That's exactly what the never say die Pearl City team did.
“The kids did it all, congratulations to our kids,” said Pearl City head coach Alex Oshiro. “They fought hard. All we had to do was just guide them."
There were so many great plays and timely hitting from both squads during the tournament.
It was a lot of fun watching them play and compete for the state championship title.
