Campbell came from behind last night to erase a 2-0 deficit and defeat Pearl City 3-2 (2OT PK 5-3) in the quarterfinals of the HHSAA Girls State Soccer Championships at Kunuiakea Stadium on the campus of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama.
Pearl City got on the scoreboard early on a goal by Piper Collado in the 4th minute. Pearl City increased their lead at the 43rd minute of the second half on a goal by Nikki Suwa. The teams played two overtime periods before entering into a very dramatic penalty kick shoot-out period won by the Lady Sabers 5-3. It was the Lady Chargers second loss to the 2014-2105 OIA Champion Lady Sabers this season.
#2 Campbell moves on to face Iolani in the championship semifinals on Friday, February 20, 5:00pm at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, Main Stadium. Mililani will take on #4 Konawaena in the night cap at 7:00pm.
Pearl City's season came to end last night, but with a young squad with experience playing in both the OIA and State tournaments, the years ahead for the Lady Chargers soccer program looks bright.
Congratulations to the Lady Chargers seniors who leave behind a winning legacy and championship spirit that will live on for the Lady Chargers of the future to build upon, one layer of success at a time.
