Leeward residents turned out in numbers at this past Saturday's "Second Saturday at the Garden" at the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City. Visitors to the UGC attended workshops, shopped at the plant sale, had their plant questions answered by the UGC Master Gardeners who were on hand to also assist in helping visitors select the right plant and proper care, and browsed amongst the many varieties of plants, flowers, trees, and the wonderful Peace Rose Garden located on the UGC grounds.

Jeanie Lum,  Peace Day Hawaii event Coordinator with the UH College of Education presented the classroom workshop: "Peace Gardens for school gardens and your own backyard", and how Peace Gardens promote cooperation and friendship. The workshop explored peace gardens and their importance in our local communities to foster Peace building and Sustainability Education. The workshop also featured the importance of pollinators in Hawaii with family activities, educational booths, and  honey tasting!

Certified Arborist, Carlton Luka led a workshop on:  "Caring for Your Garden Tools". Mr. Luka gave a hands on demonstration on cleaning your personal gardening tools pruners, saws, etc.

A group of volunteers from the Oahu Family and Community Education Program, South Oahu invited the public to their booth to craft beautiful Peace Day White Doves.
