The Pearl City Chargers reached the final four in the 2013 OIA Red Soccer Championship Tournament after defeating Moanalua 3-0 last night in a quarterfinal match-up at Kapolei High School.
It was the second shutout victory of the championship tournament for the Chargers with the first one coming in a first round 2-0 win over Castle on Tuesday at Pearl City High School.
In last night's game, Andrew Tanaka got Pearl City on the scoreboard midway through the first half of play to give the Chargers a 1-0 halftime lead.
Christian Nakabayashi and Carter Casuga both added a goal each late in the second half to put the Chargers in cruise control over Moanalua at 3-0.
In Pearl City's two shut out wins so far in the championship tournament, five different Chargers have scored a goal each while keeping their opponents scoreless.
With Wednesday's quarterfinal win over Moanalua, Pearl City earned one of six OIA berths into the HHSAA Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Division I Boys State Soccer Championships scheduled for February 6-9 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
OIA Red Championship Tournament Semifinals:
Thursday (1/24) @ Kaiser High School
5:30pm – Mililani (10-0-1) will take on Campbell (8-3-1) in the first game of the semifinal doubleheader. Mililani defeated Kahuku (7-4-1) in double OT on Wednesday to reach the semifinals. Campbell knocked off East #1 seed Kalani (9-1-1) 1-0 in penalty kicks 5-3.
7:00pm – Pearl City (9-3-0) will match up with Kapolei (10-0-1) in the second semifinal game on Thursday. Kapolei defeated Kaiser (6-4-2) 3-2 in OT on Wednesday to advance.
