PCCA awards $1000 scholarships to four 2012 PCHS graduates

The Pearl City Community Association (PCCA) held their annual Scholarship Awards Dinner and Check Presentation on Monday, May 21 at the Pearl City Shopping Center Community Conference Room.

Four exceptional and very deserving 2012 Pearl City High School graduates received $1000 scholarship awards each from the PCCA Board of Directors.

2012 PCCA Scholarship Award Recipients:

Kara Lynne Ogawa, Rachel Look, Adam Murata, Sabrina Angle

The four 2012 scholarship recipients were chosen out of twenty-four PCHS Senior applicants. Each applicant was judged on their academic standing, extracurricular activities, community service and written essay. Consideration was also given with regard to their higher education financial (tuition assistance) needs.

Kara Lynne Ogawa, Rachel Look, and Adam Murata along with their parents attended  Monday night's scholarship awards dinner and check presentation. Sabrina Angle was not available to attend.

PCHS Principal, Carlyn Fujimoto and PCHS Post High School Counselor, Mark Oda were both present as well to congratulate the recent graduates and to wish them on their way as they pursue their high education goals. They also gave a snapshot of each scholarship recipients academic accomplishments while a student at Pearl City High School.

All in attendance enjoyed a delicious Buffet style dinner provided by the PCCA Board of Directors. PCCA President, Warren Hiromoto served as the emcee for the check presentation portion of the evening.

Each scholarship recipient addressed the PCCA Board while expressing their gratitude and appreciation for being selected and also shared their academic plans and goals for the future.

After thanking their parents for all  their support and for always being there for them, they went on to recognize PCHS Principal, Carlyn Fujimoto and PCHS Post High School Counselor, Mark Oda for their support and guidance throughout the four very special years at Pearl City High School.

PCCA President, Warren Hiromoto expressed the PCCA Board of Directors appreciation to the three scholarship recipients in attendance. "We are so proud and honored to provide you with a $1000 scholarship award," said President Hiromoto. "Each year, our scholarship fundraising efforts make it possible for us to award scholarships to four deserving Pearl City High School seniors such as yourselves. It's  important that you thank your parents for supporting you and guiding you. To all the parents, great job!"

Kara Lynne Ogawa pictured with her parents Noreen and Russell Ogawa. Kara Lynne will be attending Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has received $120,000 in scholarships.

Rachel Look pictured her parents Chiaki and Damian Look. (Chiaki and Damian are also teachers at Pearl City High School). Rachel is headed to the University of Hawaii at Manoa and has recently been awarded the prestigious University of Hawaii Regents Scholarship.

Adam Murata pictured with proud parents, Eugene and Carolyn Murata. Adam will be attending college on the mainland at the University of Portland in Oregon and has received $72,000 in scholarships.

Sabrina Angle received the Chaminade University Nursing Regent’s Scholarship in the amount of $36,000.
