Momilani Elementary 3rd graders introduced to Four Way Test, receive free dictionaries

The Rotary Club of Pearlridge kicked of their annual Hawaii Rotary Dictionary 5000 Project on Friday with a special delivery to Momilani Elementary School in Pearl City.

Momilani Elementary School third grade teachers, Mr. Uchino and Mrs. Uyesato invited Rotary Club of Pearlridge community volunteers to present the free dictionaries to their students.

Mr. Dick Mosko introduced the Rotary Club's "Four Way Test" that teaches the students to be good citizens. Each dictionary included the "Four Way Test" Principles for the students to study and practice.

"Four Way Test"

1.  Is it the truth;
2.  Is it fair to all concerned,
3.  Will it bring good will and better friendships
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned.

This school year, the Rotary Club of Pearlridge is stepping up their efforts to promote literacy in our Pearl City and Aiea schools by incorporating the Rotary's "Four Way Test" and awarding two students from each school with a $100.00 savings bond.

"Every year the Rotary Club of Pearlridge participates in Rotary International's effort to promote literacy in the world by visiting public schools in the Pearl City / Aiea area, donating a personalized dictionary to each child in the third grade, and talking to them about the importance of literacy," said Keith Masuda, Community Chair, Rotary Club of Pearlridge.

"To add an element of fun and challenging the students to make practical use of the Four Way Test , towards the end of the school year, the Rotary Club of Pearlridge will donate a $100 savings bond to two students in the grade level at participating schools who best exemplify the Four Way Test," added Masuda.

Here are the five schools participating in the Hawaii Rotary 5000 Dictionary Project for the 2011/2012 school year:

Momilani Elementary, Lehua Elementary, Palisades Elementary, Waiau Elementary and Webling Elementary.
