Seniors string and pack over 2000 leis for Memorial Day

Waiau Senior Club members from Pearl City, teamed up with other District 3 Senior Clubs and the Mana Loa-Nimitz Lions Club on Friday, May 28, 2010 to string and pack plumeria leis for Monday's Memorial Day Service at Punchbowl National Cemetery in Honolulu.

"We're making these leis for Memorial Day so that the Boy Scouts can lay a flower lei for each person that's buried at Punchbowl," said Mary Takeshita, President of the Waiau Seniors Club.

Each year, community volunteers generously donate flowers and their time to string leis together to be placed on graves at the Punchbowl National Cemetary in Honolulu by Hawaii Boy Scout volunteers.

Volunteers spent Friday morning stringing and packing over 2000 leis at Waipahu District Park.

MyPearlCity.com would like to thank the many senior volunteers who truly make a difference in our community through their dedication to community service projects.

Memorial Day serves as an example of their commitment to the community as seniors partner with Hawai'i's youth to honor the sacrifice that the men and women of our armed forces gave to protect us all.
