Pearl City High School’s Homecoming 2009 Delivers Charger Spirit to the Community.
This past week, I witnessed the spirit and excitement that truly makes Pearl City High Schools Homecoming a special time for PCHS students, administration, staff, families, alumni and supporters representing the Pearl City community.
PCHS Homecoming week started on Monday at Bino Neves Stadium on the PCHS campus with a Pep Rally, Bonfire and the annual Powder Puff Football Championships that featured teams representing girls from the freshmen through senior classes who competed for the title.
The main focus of Monday night’s activities was to pump up the Chargers Football teams as they prepared for a showdown with the Kaiser Cougars on Friday night. Check out photos and video from Monday night’s activities on our home page cover story dated October 14, 2009.
Pearl City High School finished Homecoming week with a late afternoon parade through upper Pearl City which led right to tonight’s football games. The 2009 PCHS Homecoming Court and class spirit competition was held during the halftime of the Varsity match up.
Our Charger teams dropped both games to the Cougars, but as shown all season, they played tough until the last second on the clock. The 2009 Charger Football teams also played inspired football. Charger coaches are always giving credit for the team’s success to their fellow coaches, not themselves. A personality trait that influences team chemistry as it is being filtered down to the student athletes.
I would like to recognize Mr. Kyle Miyashiro and his team for their efforts and hard work coordinating Homecoming week. Mr. Miyashiro also teaches the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) class at PCHS. I spotted him wearing his class of 1990 Alumni t-shirt as he was being surrounded by other PCHS Alumni who were proudly representing their graduating classes as well. Sorry to say, I was not in my class of ’77
t-shirt. I didn’t even know we had one. I promise next year I will be sporting the mighty class of ’77 special edition design. Thanks again to Mr. Kyle Miyashiro for his dedication to the students, school and community.
A special thanks to Principal Carlyn Fujimoto for all that she does to make PCHS a great experience for those who attend, work, support and participate in school academics, extra curricular activities, sports, music, community events, etc.
I would also like to thank, Athletic Director Reid Shigemasa and his coaching staff for allowing me access and making me feel at home covering PCHS sports.
Have a great weekend and hope to see you around Pearl City.
Go Chargers!
