The Pearl City Chargers once again dug down deep inside themselves to will their way to victory on Wednesday at Hans L Orange Park in Waipahu by defeating the unbeaten Mililani Trojans 6-5 on a walk-off game winner by Jodi Takara in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Mililani broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh inning scoring one run to lead the Chargers 5-4. In the bottom of the seventh inning Pearl City’s Noah Bernal scored to tie the game at 5-5 followed by Jodi Takara’s walk-off RBI game winning hit that dropped into shallow centerfield.
Pearl City’s Noah Bernal earned the win for the Chargers in an outstanding performance in relief. Bernal pitched the sixth and seventh while allowing 1 run, 1 hit with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Jase Lorenzo pitched the fifth inning in relief of Wickland allowing 1 hit, no runs, with 1 walk.
Pearl City’s Ian Wicklund got the start for the Chargers pitching 4 complete innings while giving up 4 runs, 2 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Congratulations to Ian who was selected Spectrum O16 Impact Player of the Game.
Mililani starting pitcher Kai Hirayama pitched 5.6 innings while allowing 3 runs, 4 hits with 1 walk and impressive 11 strikeouts. Ezra Ugale pitched in relief of Hirayama.
Kaleb Wada took the loss for the Trojans. Wada pitched the seventh inning while allowing 3 hits and 2 runs with 3 walks and 1 strikeout.
Mililani currently sits atop the Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division regular season standings at 8-1 while Pearl City is in third place in league standings. Both teams have one game remaining before the OIA Championship Playoffs.
