Leilehua celebrates Senior Day with 8-5 win over visiting Pearl City

The Leilehua Mules built up an 8-0 lead after 4 complete innings of play and went on to beat the visiting Pearl City Chargers 8-5 on Saturday in Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division Baseball played at Wahiawa Middle School Field.

Leilehua shocked Pearl City after being shut out by the Chargers 8-0 in a league first round match-up on March 12 at Pearl City High School.

Pearl City chipped away at the Leilehua lead and were trailing 8-5 before scoring runs in the top of the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. The game ended in the top of the 7th inning with two outs, two runners on base, and the tying run, Noah Kawakami at the plate. Kawakami popped up for the final out.

Leilehua 5-3 sits in sole possession of second place in OIA Western Division regular season standings with Pearl City in third place at 4-4. Campbell 3-4 is below the Chargers in fourth place. Mililani is atop regular season standings at a perfect 8-0.

Leilehua starting pitcher Tanner Tammarine picked up the win for the Mules holding the potent Charger bats to 3 hits and 1 run in 5 complete innings of work.  Tammarine also recorded 5 walks with 2 strikeouts. Tammarine came off the mound with a commanding 8-1 Mules lead. Jordan Orillo and Titan Pasco pitched relief for the Mules.

Pearl City starting pitcher Talon Paahao struggled on the mound for the Chargers giving up 5 runs, 6 hits with 1 walk and no strikeouts in 2.3 innings of work. Imipono Kala, Kawika Mendoza, Jase Lorenzo and Cohen Adaro all pitched in relief for the Chargers.

The Mules teed off on Charger pitchers for a total of 14 hits in the ball game that included 3 doubles. Keola Hanoa batted a perfect 4-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Kyson Kobashigawa went 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored. Blaze Manutai batted 2-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Pearl City’s Ethan Higashionna once again had a hot bat for the Chargers hitting 3-4 with a RBI and run scored.
