Th Pearl City Chargers overwhelmed the visiting Waipahu Marauders 14-0 (F/5) on Wednesday at Pearl City High School behind the arm of Charger starting pitcher Imipono Kala. Kala allowed one hit, no runs, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 4 complete innings. Chase Lau closed it for the Chargers in the top of the fifth and final inning. Lau allowed no runs, no hits with 2 strikeouts.
Waipahu starting pitcher Jayven Taira took the loss for the Marauders. Taira pitched 2 innings allowing 6 runs, 4 hits with 2 walks and no strikeouts. Taira also picked up the only hit for the Marauders hitting 1-2 in the ball game.
The Chargers (2-3) climbed out of the cellar of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division regular season standings with the win over the Marauders (1-4) to close out the league’s first round. Mililani remains atop league standings at 5-0 to end the first round.
Pearl City bats pounded out 10 hits against Marauder pitching on Wednesday. The Chargers put together a 6-run rally in the bottom of 4th inning that increased their lead to 14-0 and enforced the 10-run rule after 4 ½ innings of play.
