By Barry Villamil, President, Rotary Club of Pearlridge
It was an honor to welcome Senator Brandon Elefante to the Rotary Club of Pearlridge as a very special guest speaker on Friday, February 21 during our lunch meeting held at the Pearl City Shopping Center Conference Room.
Senator Elefante spoke on the topic of illegal fireworks in our communities and recent bills presented, introduced and soon to cross over in the Senate and House of the Hawaii State Legislature that focus on enforcing illegal fireworks laws, as well as combatting the flow of illegal fireworks into the state that is overwhelming the safety and health of residents and their ohana.
The New Years Eve 2025 loss of life tragedy due to illegal fireworks has brought to attention heightened efforts by State and City leaders to do something about the out-of-control illegal fireworks and danger to the public.
Senator Elefante has recently served as chair of the Senate held Illegal Fireworks Hearings in the community and shared the hearings findings with RCOP members and guests in attendance last Friday. Senator Elefante has also introduced a couple illegal fireworks bills this session.
Mahalo Senator Elefante and staff member Taylor for spending time with us at our lunch meeting. We all had a great time and appreciate your friendship and heartfelt service to our community.
