The Waianae Seariders (1-2) had their way with the Pearl City Chargers (0-3) on Friday with a 44-8 win to open the 2024 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Football regular season at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium. Waianae wide receiver Slater Kaleiohi impacted the Seariders highlight reel with an outstanding performance catching 11 passes for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kaleiohi was on the receiving end of Seariders QB Maximus Kahalewai Sapigao who lit up Edwin Bino Neves Stadium through the air completing 15-19 passes for 273 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Pearl City starting QB Jonah Galanto completed 22-48 for 196 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Javian Mizuno led the Chargers in receiving yards (67) with 7 receptions. Tayvon Ching-Harrell scored the Chargers only touchdown of the ball game in the second quarter on a 6-yard touchdown reception from QB Galanto. The Chargers converted the 2-point conversion attempt on a pass from Galanto to Mizuno. Lennon Elder contributed to the Chargers output in receiving yards hauling in 5 catches for 52 yards.
The Chargers fought hard throughout the ball game and moved the ball against a tough Seariders defense in the second half but were stopped in both the third and fourth quarters inside the red zone. Waianae scored their final touchdowns in the third quarter on a 75-yard pic six off of Charger QB Galanto, and in the fourth quarter on Slater Kaleiohi’s third touchdown catch of the ball game from QB Maximus Kahalewai Sapigao.
