A group of Rotary Club of Pearlridge community volunteers experienced a very special treat on Saturday, August 17 while picking up rubbish along the Pearl Harbor Bike Trail in Pearl City.  Dick Mosko, Terri and Tim Mehlhorn and me, Barry Villamil, were making our way West towards the Hawaiian Electric Waiau Power Plant when Elvis Presley’s “Blue Hawaii” filled the air on the bike path. Actually, it was Magic Elvis (who sounds exactly like Elvis) walking with a sound system and a microphone and singing Elvis Presley top hits while serenading Saturday morning bike trail users and neighbors.

We were thrilled to meet Magic Elvis and a buddy who was walking with him and enjoyed a couple Elvis hits, “Blue Hawaii” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love with You”. If you closed your eyes, it was like Elvis was singing right there on the bike path. After sharing his singing talents while honoring the spirit of Elvis Presley and his Aloha for Hawaii with us, Magic Elvis continued his trek on the bike path while heading East past Pu’uloa Springs towards Blaisdell Park.

It was such a fitting moment on Saturday as the world recognized the anniversary date of the King of Rock and Roll’s passing the day before on August 16. Elvis loved Hawaii and Magic Elvis truly represents the heart and soul of a true American legend and icon. Magic Elvis is blessed with a wonderful voice as the spirit of Elvis lives on through him.

Rotary Club of Pearlridge members, along with community volunteers and Pearl City and Aiea students, help out at Puuloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden, as well as clean and pick up rubbish along the Pearl Harbor Bike Path and historic Pearl Harbor shoreline on the third Saturday of each month.
