Mana Loa Nimitz Lions return to Pearl City High School to volunteer at PCHS Community Garden

Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club (MLNC) community volunteers returned to the Pearl City High School Community Garden and Pumpkin Patch on Saturday to help clean out a recently donated 40 foot cargo container that was delivered and placed at the garden this past Thursday. MLNLC volunteers were joined by PCHS Principal Joe Halfmann, Vice Principal Aaron Chung, Student Activities Coordinator/PCHS Garden and Pumpkin Patch coordinator Kyle Miyashiro, CTE Coordinator, FCCLA Advisor Marla Miyamura. Also, mahalo to Richele Thornburg, Volunteer, Leeward Community Church The Haven: Community Garden at PCHS Project Lead and Deaconess and Creighton Oshiro, Volunteer, Leeward Community Church The Haven:  Community Garden at PCHs Project Operations Director.

Volunteers removed the following materials from the cargo container that were placed in dumpsters and piled up for bulk rubbish removal:

  • multiple roles of carpet, construction materials, metal carts, galvanized poles, desks, piano, wood, barbecue pit materials, hand trucks, etc… Our Lions workday begin bright and early at 6:30am on Saturday and was completed by 8:30am.

A wonderful breakfast buffet and refreshments followed our workday compliments of chef Richelle Thornburgh from the Leeward Community Church/PCHS Community Garden and Pumpkin Patch who cooked and prepared a tasty spread of goodies. Mahalo Richelle!

Also, the morning was highlighted by a presentation to Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club member Jadhe Matthenson who received the Hawaii Lions District 50 “Proud Lion Award” while being recognized for the successful completion of the New Lion Activation Initiative. Mahalo to Lion Wendell Hosea who mentored and guided Lion Jadhe towards achieving his award. Also, mahalo to Lion Diane Rosa who presented Lion Jadhe with his prestigious award surrounded by fellow MLNLC members on Saturday at the Pearl City High School Community Garden.
