I would like to send my heartfelt congratulations to the Pearl City Chargers Girls and Boys Judo teams who participated in last Saturday’s 2024 HHSAA State Girls and Boys Judo Team and Individual Championships held at the Stan Sheriff on the campus of the University of Hawaii.

Congratulations to Chloe Obuhanych (103lbs.) and Travis Tanaka (220lbs.) who were both crowned State Individual Champions!

Also, congratulations to the Charger Girls who finished 2nd place in team standings with the Charger Boys finishing in 3rd place in team standings. Outstanding!

There was an extreme amount of pride, honor, and respect resonating amongst the Chargers coaches and players as they competed throughout the championship tournament. Pride, honor, and respect blessed the day of competition from the very beginning with, what I call, the unity and respect bow with all players representing their schools along with Judo championship referees participating. The sport of Judo is one of most respectful high school sports in Hawaii as the players pay honor and respect to their opponents at the beginning of each bout as well as at the end, win or lose.

Mahalo to Charger head coach Robin Puahala and his amazing coaching staff for their award winning, championship leadership and most importantly their love and respect for their student athletes as Chargers and beyond.

Also, mahalo to HHSAA Executive Director Chistopher Chun for another outstanding state tournament that once again made so many dreams come true that will last a lifetime for the student athletes and their ohana.

A very special mahalo to HHSAA Director of Information and Marketing, Natalie Iwamoto. Great job!
