The W5 Pearl City Chargers put it all together in the opening round of the 2024 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Baseball Playoffs by defeating the E4 Kaiser Cougars with an impressive and dominating 9-3 win at Kaiser High School. The Chargers took the first step in their quest to capture an OIA Championship crown under first year head coach Duane Eldredge by outhitting and outpitching the Cougars on their homefield. With the win, the Chargers advanced to Wednesday’s quarterfinal round to face W1 Aiea Na Ali’i at Aiea High School. The Na Ali’i swept the Chargers in the first and second rounds of the OIA Western Division I regular season.
Pearl City’s Jayson Au Hoy had a potent performance at the plate for the Chargers hitting 2-4 with a homerun, 4 RBI, and a run scored.

Ethan Higashionna 3-4, run scored; Logan Honma 1-3, RBI, double, run scored; Jace Noda 1-4, RBI, run scored; Noah Bernal 2-3, 2 runs scored; Tyler Nishimura 2-3, RBI, run scored; Tyler Oshiro1-2; Chavis Calleon 1-2
Kaiser’s Caleb Hamasaki thrilled hometown Cougar fans hitting 1-3 with a 3-run homerun and a run scored. Mana Shigehara-Pang batted 1-3 with Noah Sham hitting 1-3 with a run scored.
Charger ace Noah Bernal earned the win in 4 2/3 innings while allowing 3 runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Bernal also hit 2-3 with a run scored. Halona Felix and Noah Kia pitched in relief for the Chargers.
Bryson Toner took the loss for the Cougars with Poata Pratt-Faitu pitching in relief.
