Congratulations to Pearl City High School’s Mia Manzo and HannahMarie Tokiwa who will be performing at this year’s D-Day Memorial Parade while representing Hawaii in Normandy, France on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
Mia and HannahMarie will be proud members of the “All American D-Day Band” at the World War II commemoration event. Mia and HannahMarie are exceptional and talented members in the Pearl City High School Charger Band program led by award winning Band Director Chadwick Kamei.
(Mahalo to Mr. Chad Kamei for the information below)
HannahMarie Tokiwa and Mia Manzo both auditioned to participate in the All American D-Day Band. They took part in a nationwide audition and went against other students across the nation. HannahMarie also has an extra special honor to be the student speaker at the “LIBERATION MEMORIAL CEREMONY – Brittany American Cemetery” on Monday June 5th. She was selected because of her connection to World War II, with her grandfather serving in the 442 and for her receiving the military child of the year award.
Chad Kamei, Director of Bands, Pearl City High School
“I am proud of Mia and HannahMarie for being selected to participate in this prestigious event to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day. They both personify the Charger Spirit; creating “Excellence with Honor” through their music. They will be able to experience the exuberance and gratitude of a country that was liberated in the darkest hours of World War II. This will have a huge impact on their lives, and I hope that they are able to carry it throughout their lives and pass it on to future Charger band members.”
(HannahMarie is a recent graduate of the Pearl City High School Class of 2023)
