The Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association recently presented Pearl City High School Robotics with an annual $250.00 check donation in support of their award-winning program. I was once again honored to represent the PCSC Merchants Association with the check donation presentation to Hai Nguyen who is the PCHS Robotics Program Advisor, as well as a PCHS Math Teacher.
Mr. Nguyen has served as the PCHS Robotics advisor for the past 14 years and has led his talented Robotics teams through the years to winning Hawaii state and national championships and awards.
The PCSC Merchants Association annual donations to PCHS Robotics assist the program in replenishing parts and purchasing new equipment that will help to enhance their performances and success in competition here in Hawaii, and at national and international championship competition.

“Today’s donation will definitely help us replenish parts, and buying equipment the students never get to use like different sensors and different metals. Things that they don’t usually get.
For us, we always try to reuse things, try to reuse the parts, but there are certain things like metal that we cut that aren’t reusable after each year. So, for us its working within our constraints. The kids learn to take care of the equipment and try to use parts to make it last a bit longer, but at certain points there are times that you need to replace those parts, or you need to buy new parts to keep up with the competition. The great thing is that they learn how to use those parts.”
The Charger Robotics Teams will utilize new and replenished parts, and their exceptional skills to compete soon at the following Hawaii Robotics Championships:
2023 Hawaii VRC Regional Championships – VEX Robotics Competition sponsored by Hawaiian Electric on February 19-20, 2023 at Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama campus. A maximum of 36 teams will compete in the championships.
Hawaii Regionals of the FIRST Robotics Competition on March 22, 2023 at Stan Sheriff Center on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. 37 teams from Hawaii, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia are entered in the prestigious Hawaii Regionals.
