The Pearl City Chargers rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the visiting Mililani Trojans 7-6 in Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division I Junior Varsity Baseball played at Pearl City High School on Wednesday.
The Trojans were cruising along with a comfortable 6-2 lead over the Chargers entering the bottom of the seventh inning. The Trojans sent in their closer to finish out the game for their starting pitcher who tossed six complete innings. If you’ve been around Charger baseball as long as I have, as well as many Charger fans in attendance on Wednesday, you know that no lead is a safe lead for their opponents.
The Chargers went right to work in the bottom of the seventh inning loading the bases and rallying for five runs with the tying and winning runs scored on a dramatic 2 RBI single by Evan Mizuuchi. The Chargers rushed the field in celebration after plating the winning run, while the Trojans were left with disappointment and shock after losing their four-run lead and the ball game.
Caleb Felix earned the win for the Chargers in seven complete innings.
Pearl City (8-3) will finish out the regular season on Saturday against the Aiea Na Ali’i at Aiea High School. The Chargers and Na Ali’i last met on December 27, 2022 at Pearl City High School with the Na Ali’i winning the ball game 12-8.
Saturday’s regular season finale match-up against Aiea is a must win for Pearl City and a chance to earn a berth in next week’s OIA Junior Varsity Baseball Championship Playoffs.
A win will tie the Chargers in league standings with the loser of Saturday’s Mililani/Campbell game. The West #2 seed in the championship playoffs will be decided by a tiebreaker. TBA
GO CHARGERS!
