Central Maui and Pearl City battled for 17 innings on Monday at Central Oahu Regional Park on Oahu with Central Maui coming away with a dramatic 11-10 extra inning victory to capture the 2022 Hawaii Little League 50/70 State Baseball Championship.
Central Maui entered Monday’s championship undefeated and needing a win over Pearl City to earn the state championship title in the double elimination formatted tournament. Pearl City needed a win to force a winner take all, game two championship match-up. Pearl City came through with a 7-5 extra inning win to stay alive and head to the championship showdown that followed their victory.
The championship once again went into extra innings with both teams battling for championship title with Central Maui coming out on top 11-10. Central Maui and Pearl City left everything they had on the field. It was amazing effort and display of the Heart, Soul, and Spirit of Little League baseball that lives in the coaches, players, fans, officiating crews, and the volunteer Hawaii Little League District League officials and organizers who help make Little League dreams come true.
The Central Maui state champions will head to the mainland to represent Hawaii in the upcoming 2022 Little League 50/70 Baseball Western Regionals.
