Congratulations to the newly crowned 2022 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Baseball Champion Mililani Trojans who defeated the Pearl City Chargers 5-4 last night at a packed Hans L ‘Orange Park in Waipahu.
It was like watching a heavyweight fight with the Trojans delivering the knock-out punch in bottom of sixth inning scoring a single run that broke a 4-4 tie and gave Mililani the lead at 5-4 and propel the Trojans to capturing the OIA DI crown.
Assistant Coach Eric Boyles
"Today the boys left it all out on the field. They worked hard all season for this and they left it out there. They played their hearts out. We had a couple small errors, but they had errors too that let us back in the game. As far as I’m concerned this is just Mililani and Pearl City. We battled it out. It’s that one timely hit or whatever it may be that’s usually how the guys win.”
Freshman hurler Kai Hirayama earned the win in an exceptional championship clinching performance pitching 6 complete innings while allowing 4 runs, 5 hits with 5 strikeouts.
Jaden Miranda closed it out to earn the save for the Trojans pitching the top of the seventh inning and shutting down the Chargers allowing no runs, no hits with 2 strikeouts.
Pearl City’s Dacoda Agoto got the start and no decision for the Chargers pitching 1 inning while allowing 2 runs, 2 hits, and 2 strikeouts. Agoto was lifted for Devin Hayashi who pitched 6 innings while allowing 3 runs, 4 hits with 3 strikeouts. Hayashi took the loss for the Chargers.
