Pearl City's Tyanna Peanut Butterr Kaaialii doubled up her efforts from the mound and at the plate to lead the Lady Chargers over #1 ranked and defending state champion Campbell 1-0 (F/8) yesterday afternoon in Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division I softball at Campbell High School. The Lady Chargers ace pitched eight complete innings allowing no runs, three hits with an amazing 10 strikeouts. Kaaialii also went 2-3 from the plate.
Tuesday's match-up was another classic dual between possibly the top two pitchers in Division I softball. Kaaialii and Campbell ace Danielle Cervantes battled for seven scoreless innings before the Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning via the hustle of courtesy runner Maiki Au who scored from from third base. Cervantes pitched eight complete innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
It was Kaaialii's second win over Campbell as the Lady Chargers swept the Lady Sabers 2-0 during the regular season.
Trinity Favela 1-3, Malia Kaakimaka 1-1, and Nikki Corla 1-3 picked up the Lady Sabers three hits in the ball game.
With the win, the Lady Chargers pulled into a three-way tie for first place with Campbell and Mililani at 8-2 in OIA Western Division I standings. Key match-ups between the league leaders are scheduled this week to close out the regular season and determine the league champion and the top seed from the West in next week's OIA championsip playoffs.
