Pearl City QB Jordan Taamu celebrated last night's Homecoming game in style while leading the Chargers to a 42-20 win over Kalani as well as representing his school at halftime as the Homecoming King. I guess its safe to say that Jordan Taamu is the "Man" on campus but, he does have a bit of competition on the playing field as teammate (and buddy) Dominic MANeafaiga continues to tear it up on offense in both the rushing and receiving departments.
Here's both Jordan and Dominic's stats from last night's win:
Taamu completed 9 of 16 passes for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. Taamu also ran for 95 yards on 6 carries and 1 touchdown that came on a electrifying 50 yard run in the 4th quarter that increased the Chargers lead to 35-14 after Joseph Komomua nailed the PAT
Maneafaiga rushed for 104 yards on 15 carries with 1 touchdown. Maneafaiga also caught 4 passes for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Pearl City wide receiver Garrett Kanamu contributed in a big way the Chargers air attack against the Falcons catching touchdown passes of 5 and 28 yards. Kanamu finished the game with 3 catches for 37 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On defense, the Chargers continue to play aggressive "take-away" football. Draven Gella recored an INT while Pjay Solomon added to his season take-away total with a fumble recovery.
Kalani running back Ace Faumui led all rushers gaining 142 yards on 20 carries with 1 touchdown. Falcon teammate Blaise Manabe rushed for 94 yards on 11 carries and 2 touchdowns.
The Chargers rebounded from last week's road loss to Nanakuli. The loss knocked the Chargers out of the unbeaten ranks and a tie for first place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association D 2 Division. Nanakuli just got past Radford last night 27-26 at Roosevelt to remain undefeated at 7-0. The Chargers moved to 6-1 while Kalani fell to 4-3. League play raps up next weekend with games scheduled for both Friday and Saturday with the results to determine OIA D2 play-off berths and seeding. Nanakuli and Pearl City have already qualified for the play-offs. First round play-off action is scheduled for Friday, October 17. Game sites TBA. The Chargers will host Kalaheo on Friday, October 10 to end the regular season.
