Pearl City improves to 2-0 with 34-7 win over Waialua

Pearl City spread the wealth on offense and closed the door on defense as the Chargers defeated Waialua 34-7 last night at Waialua High School's Toshiyuki "Toshi" Nakasone Stadium. Pearl City improved to 2-0 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division 2 standings while Waialua fell to 0-2.

Pearl City QB Jordan Taamu threw touchdown passes to Israel Kaleo and Keelan Domingo-Ishikawa. Kavossie Mason had 10 catches for 87 yards. Taamu also rushed for 76 yards. Dominic Maneafaiga scored two rushing touchdowns for the Chargers.

Waialua QB Royce Tashiro completed one TD pass to Thomas Pule. Tashiro threw for 121 yards.

Pearl City took and early 6-0 lead on a 15 yard touchdown strike from QB Jordan Taamu to Israel Kaleo with 5:20 on the clock in the first quarter. Joseph Komomua converted the PAT to put Pearl City up 7-0.

The Chargers scored again on a 5 yard touchdown run by Dominic Maneafaiga with 3:30 on the clock in the first quarter. Komomua converted the PAT to put Pearl City up 14-0 Maneafaiga's touchdown was set up by a Waialua fumble that was recovered by Chargers on the Bulldog 25 yard line.

Keelan Domingo-Ishikawa scored on a 21 yard touchdown reception from Taamu late in the second quarter with 1:21 on the clock that put the Chargers up 20-0. Komomua converted the PAT to give the Chargers a 21-0 lead going into halftime.

Maneafaiga scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on a 3 yard run with 10:10 on the clock in the third quarter. The touchdown was the result of a fumble recovery by Pjay Solomon at Waialua's 30 yard line on the Bulldogs first possession of the second half and a 27 yard reception by Kavossie Mason from Taamu that brought the ball down to the Bulldogs 3 yard line. Maneafaiga's TD followed by Komomua's PAT increased Pearl City lead to 28-0.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard at 4:51 in the third quarter on a 13 yard touchdown pass from Waialua QB Royce Tashiro to Thomas Pule. Pule converted the PAT to trail Pearl City 28-7.

With 10:00 on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Chargers got into scoring position deep in Waialua territory on a blocked punt by Joseph Komomua that put ball on the Waialua 13 yard line. Jarrett Sanchez scored on a 15 yard touchdown run with 9:30 left in the game. The  PAT was missed. Pearl City took a 34-7 lead.

The Chargers return home to face Kaimuki on Friday, August 29 with the Junior Varsity kick-off scheduled for 6:00pm with the Varsity to follow.
