Pearl City hustles past Kaneohe 10-8 in Hawaii State 10-11 Little League Championship Tourney

Pearl City picked up another win in the 2014 Hawaii 10-11 State Little League Championship Tournament after defeating Kaneohe 10-8 on Saturday, July 12 at Aikahi Elementary School (Norman Aweau Field #1).in Kailua.

Pearl City came from behind for the second game in a row to pick up the win on Saturday.  Pearl City beat Honolulu 8-7 in the bottom of sixth inning on Friday, July 11 to open the championship tournament.

Trailing 6-1 entering the top of the fourth inning, Pearl City scored four runs in the top of the fourth to pull within one run of Kaneohe at 6-5. Pearl City came back in the top of the fifth inning with five more runs to take a 10-6 lead. Kaneohe picked up two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning but came up short to end the game at 10-8.

Pearl City moves on to today's semifinals in the winners bracket of the double elimination format championship tournament and will face Waipio at 4:00pm at Norman Aweau Field. Waipio defeated Kawaihau yesterday 19-3 to advance.

Kaneohe drops into the tournament loser’s bracket and is scheduled to play at 10:00am in the first of two tournament elimination games scheduled for today's triple header at Norman Aweau Field.

Pearl City Head Coach Bob Kim is proud of the way his ball players have played as a team in the tournament in the first couple of games.

"This has been a team effort the last two games," said Coach Kim. "Both games we were down and our bench players helped us out a lot. The hitting, running, defense, everything. We use thirteen players. Everybody plays."
