The Pearl City Chargers defeated Anuenue Na Koa 50-7 in OIA White Division Varsity Football on Friday, at Pearl City High School's Edwin "Bino' Neves Stadium.
The final score didn't measure the heart of the Anuenue Na Koa ball club. They are as tough as it comes, Man for Man. The adversity that they were forced to overcome last night was the fact that they suited up only 18 players to face a Pearl City Chargers team that in recent weeks has been improving on both sides of the ball and winning. Winning big!
Pearl City quickly jumped out front pilling up a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. The Chargers went into the locker room at the half leading 29-0. Anuenue struck fast to open the second half scoring on a 67 yard touchdown to put six points on the board, They converted the PAT to make it 29-7. That's all they would score. The Chargers put up another 21 points in the second half on their way to the 50-7 victory over Anuenue.
Pearl City QB Jordan Taamu had another productive night for the Chargers completing 9 of 12 passes for 187 yards with interception and a touchdown. Taamu also rushed for 34 yards on 4 carries.
On the receiving side, Chargers wide receiver Kierren McGhee led all receivers in the game with 2 catches for 81 yards. Timothy Rivera caught 4 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown for the Chargers.
Anuenue QB Kona Kelekolio completed 4 of 13 passes for 52 yards.
Pearl City's Reno Abero led all rushers with 134 yards on 7 carries and one touchdown. Justin Dupio rushed for 37 yards on 4 carries and 2 touchdowns. Jordan Taamu picked up 32 yards on 4 carries.
Anuenue's #30 rushed for 100 yards on 8 carries to lead the Na Koa.
Pearl City improves to 3-1 (League), 3-2 (overall). Anuenue remains winless at 0-4 (League), 0-5 (overall).
The Chargers next opponent will be Roosevelt at home on Friday, September 20.
