The Rotary Club of Pearlridge is one school away from completing the distribution of free dictionaries to third grade students representing five elementary schools in Aiea and Pearl City.
The free dictionaries are given out as a part of Rotary International's Annual Dictionary 5000 Project.
On Friday, March 15, 2013, Pearlridge Rotarian community volunteers made stops at Lehua Elementary and Palisades Elementary to deliver the free dictionaries to the school's third grade students.
Over 120 third grade students received a free dictionary.
The Rotary Club of Pearlridge also awards a $100 savings bond to one boy and one girl that best exemplifies Rotary International's "Service Above Self" and the Principles of the "Four Way Test".
1. Is it the truth;
2. Is it fair to all concerned,
3. Will it bring good will and better friendships
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned.
Each dictionary includes the "Four Way Test" which is attached to the inside cover for the third grade students to follow.
The $100.00 savings bond awards are designed to work as an incentive for the students to fully utilize and learn from their new dictionaries. The awards are presented to the students at the end of the school year.
The Pearlridge Rotarians will make their final dictionary presentation at Momilani Elementary School on Thursday, March 28, 2013.
Mahalo to Lehua Elementary School and Palisades Elementary School for opening their doors to the members of the Rotary Club of Pearlridge who participated in the dictionary presentations.
Also, mahalo for the wonderful gifts presented to each Rotarian.
