Lions Clubs partner with Kiewit to wipe out graffiti

The Pearl City Lions Club coordinated a joint effort on Saturday, August 18, 2012, along with other zone region clubs to paint over graffiti that has covered property next to Homeworld on Kamehameha Highway in Aiea.

The property has recently been leased by Kiewit Infrastructure Group to be used as a stockpile yard for the Honolulu rail transit project's 'Kamehameha Highway Guideway' according to Elizabeth Tang, Public Involvement Coordinator, Kamehameha Guideway, Kiewit Infrastructure Group.

"In the future, this is where the Pearlridge station will be located," said Tang.

Several Lions clubs volunteers came together on Saturday to work alongside Kiewit personnel to paint over the graffiti that has become quite an eyesore to commuters as they make their way through the Pearlridge Shopping Center area on Kamehameha Highway.

Kiewit has invested time in the community the last couple of years to bring awareness to their efforts to make the rail construction run smoothly through our communities with minimal disruption to the flow of our residents and businesses as they go through their daily routines.

Kiewit also is very involved in working with community groups such as the Lions to beautify and improve our communities. In return, our District 50 Lions Clubs fulfill their goals to truly serve the community with pride and dedication in numerous community oriented projects throughout the year.

"It is important for organizations to come out and help because it shows the pride of the community and for Kiewit, the approach of the Lion's Club has opened a positive relationship for us to see what we can do to help the community that we will be working hand-in-hand with. While we were all painting, not only did we accomplish the task on hand, but more importantly, we got to hear the positive things that are happening in Pearl City and the feedback on the construction of the rail project and how it affects them by truly vested people of this community. Its important when companies and organizations like the Lion's Club come together because the more you get to know each other the more pride is built for the community and the more "we care" attitude to maintain it by all."

“Mana Loa-Nimitz Lions Club is happy to participate in this zone project which includes all the clubs in our zone. This is a really good project to be able to partner with Kiewit Construction and help wipe out graffiti in the area.”

"We’re here because we want to eradicate graffiti and make the building more pleasant to the eyes. This is a zone region project which is coordinated by the Pearl City Lions with the help of the other Lions. We’re here to support them manpower wise."
