Pearl City starting pitcher Dane Kaneshiro went the distance and also drove in the winning run to lead the Chargers over the Mililani Trojans 5-4 in OIA Red Western Division Junior Varsity Baseball played at Pearl City High School on Friday, December 23, 2011.
The Trojans jumped out in front of the Chargers in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Pearl City answered with one run in the bottom of the second inning to trail Mililani 2-1. The Trojans added one run each in the top of the third and fourth innings to cushion their lead at 4-1. The Chargers pulled within one run at 4-3 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Chargers defense played tough down the stretch backing up Kaneshiro as he worked his magic from the mound keeping Mililani scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Chargers put it all together. "Rally" Oshiro got things going for the Chargers with a lead off single to left field. Oshiro advanced to third base after #23 Oakland Scanlan walked on a wild pitch that got past the Mililani catcher. #5 Shayne Takamori entered the game to pitch run for Scanlan at first base. Oshiro tied the game at 4-4 from third base on a groundout that also advanced Takamori to second base. Takamori took third base on a pass ball at home plate. Next batter #6 Jason Komoda walked. Dane Kaneshiro stepped up to the plate and stroked an RBI single with one out to center field that scored Takamori from third base with the running run and a 5-4 final score.
Pearl City is scheduled to host Kapolei in another tough, OIA Red Western Division match up on Wednesday, December 28. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
