The Pearl City Lady Chargers Varsity Softball team opens their 2011 Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Western Division regular season this Saturday, March 12, on the road against the Leilehua Mules.
The Lady Chargers return an experienced group of players along with talent from the 2010 Lady Chargers Junior Varsity team who finished as runner up in the OIA Championship game.
MyPearlCity.com recently had an opportunity to sit down with Lady Chargers Head Coach, Keoke Behic to get a look at the Lady Chargers as they prepare for this Saturday's opener with Leilehua.
Q: Returning members in key positions and senior leadership roles?
A: Keani Passi Sr Utility- Arguable the State's best female athlete she will play out of position to fill short-stop and center field against offensive minded teams with open field.
Maya Nagata Sr Catcher- Four year backstop finally a total player with no weakness.
Sella Rodriguez Jr Pitcher- Our most important athlete. If she can perform as expected and pound the strikezone down low, she will give us an excellent opportunity to win every time out, even against good teams.
Courtney Ahlo Sr Infield- Another four year player that is very important. Our season hinges on how well she plays defense.
Q: Newcomers that will make an impact this season?
A: Sierra Mendiola Sr OF- Transfer from Mililani hits leadoff, plays excellent defense and hit .452 this pre-season.
Joe-Ann Rapoza So Utility- Plays with fire and energy. Competes day in and day out. Very aggressive.
Q: Starting pitching rotation?
A: Sella Rodriguez and Cydny Rivera.
Q: Top OIA Red Western Division competition?
A: Campbell, Kapolei, Mililani, Waianae…in that order. We are projected to be right in the middle of the pack.
